Senior Hardware Engineer
Job Description:
The Hardware Engineer will join the team of developers responsible for Ambient’s Broadband over Power Line (BPL) networking products.
Responsibilities will include:
• Design and implement embedded hardware products to support the Ambient Corporation BPL platform. These may include but are not limited to in house design efforts and management of outsourced design efforts.
• Continuing engineering on existing Ambient Corporation BPL products
• Work with Manufacturing to provide a smooth transition of product from engineering to the customer.
Requirements include:
• 4-6+ years analog and digital system design experience.
• Able to self-start and quickly contribute to product development.
• Power Supply system design experience a plus.
• Networking system design experience a plus.
• Mentor/Viewlogic and Cadence Allegro experience a plus.
• Startup experience is desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Proven ability to work independently, showing initiative, creativity and energy is required.
The position will challenge the candidate to develop the electronics for BPL products. Circuit types to be developed may include: power supplies (linear and switching), wired and RF data communications. Digital hardware of any type may be included in the system being developed.
Candidates should have a BSEE with a minimum of 4 years of design experience. Product design experience will be required. A good balance between theoretical/analytical skills and laboratory engineering skills will be helpful in being considered for the position.

Configuration Application (Slot 2)
Description/Functions:
This engineer will work on significant enhancements and evolution of our Service Management System that will be released at the end of January. They may also be called on to do a bit of support for the existing AdventNet based system while we develop its replacement. After that is completed, this individual will move to that new system. They will work on new extensions to the service manager and new applications.
Relevant Experience:
An ideal candidate will have had experience writing management software for one or more enterprise management systems and/or management platforms such as MicroMuse, HP OpenView, etc. In addition, they will have specific experience working on configuration software either provided by a vendor (e.g., Cisco Works, or one of the stand alone configuration systems such as Goldwire, Intelliden, AlterPoint, Voyence, etc. Possible candidates may have worked on the Cabletron Spectrum products. Since we are looking for two individuals to join the team, one will more likely focus on the Client aspects while the other works on server related code.

Relevant Experience:
Extensive experience in IP based management is required. In particular, server side work on element managers or sophisticated management applications. Experience at any of the major hardware vendors such as Cisco, local router companies, etc is desired. Hand-on experience with MySql and JBoss systems is a strong plus.

Ambient Management Applications – Distributed Components
Description/Functions:
This person will work on a wide range of functions on our MySql and JBoss based next generation management system for the BPL environment. Their focus will be on the portion of the system that performs distribution of the system functions (e.g., data collection, reporting, etc) as well as all the integrated servers (we include DHCP, RADIUS and TFTP). This person should have solid, demonstrable experience with distributed systems in general. Experience with a major IP management system is a plus.
Relevant Experience:
For this position, all of the management and IP related experience of the other positions is a plus. In addition, experience with large distributed Java/J2EE-based systems will be considered a plus.
